There haven’t been any Fourth of July fireworks in the city since the pandemic started, but residents will be able to see them briefly light up the sky over Labor Day weekend. 

The Baltimore Office of Promotion & Arts (BOPA) recently announced a “Fall Back Safely” End-of-Summer Extravaganza, sponsored by the city and the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore, happening on Sept. 5. The event will start at 5:30 p.m. at the Inner Harbor Amphitheatre and will end with a 15-minute fireworks display at 8:30 p.m. 

Masks and hand sanitizer will be distributed on site to ensure the safety of residents and attendees, and social distancing guidelines will be implemented. BOPA also revealed in a statement that they will be partnering with the Baltimore City Health Department and Mercy Medical Center to provide free COVID tests and vaccines throughout the duration of the event.  

Jourdan Chambers, 22, is a city resident contemplating attending the event. “I’d be comfortable going if I were to go with friends,” Chambers said. “I think it would be great to go just to get out of the house.”
