Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has agreed to pay $7.5 million to settle a lawsuit filed by the family of Christopher Zumwalt, who died in custody in 2020 after a confrontation with corrections officers, with medical examiners citing contributing factors such as lack of food and water, asphyxiation from restraints and pepper spray.
