Riverside County has approved a $6.9 million dollar contract for automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) cameras, which will double the existing number of cameras, capturing still images and vehicle information in a database for 30 days, and is a concern due to the potential for mass surveillance and the lack of transparency in the use of the technology.
