EXODUS 20:3 –“You shall have no other gods before me” (NKJ)

Introduction:   Life is like a coin.  You can spend it any way you wish, but you can only spend it once.  Choosing one thing all over the rest of your life is a difficult thing to do.  Keeping God first is the First Law of a Successful Life.

God is the source of life.  He is the provider of food.  He. Is the overseer of promotions. He is the giver of wealth and prosperity.  Deut.8:18 “For it is He that giveth thee power to get wealth.(KJV). He is the provider of safety and protection. He is the source of health.   The Apostle Paul declared there is nothing apart from Him Acts 17:28 “For in Him we live, and move, and have our being”.

Jesus is the example of a man keeping God First.  Jesus gave us the top priority.  He said, “But seek first His kingdom and righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Anything can become a god to us—anything we worship or put an excessive amount of time into. Even your feelings can become a god if you allow them to control you.

Another challenge we have to confront is living in a world full of humanism and people not wanting God and His truth to interfere with their lives and routines. It seems we have an epidemic of selfishness in our world today, and this creates all kinds of unhealthy situations.

When you decide to serve God with your whole heart and make Him first in your life, your soul will prosper and your joy and peace will increase. He doesn’t expect you to live for Him in your strength or ability, and He understands when you make mistakes.

So if you mess up, don’t be discouraged and let it hold you back; confess it and keep going. God will give you the grace to do what you need to do. One day at a time, you and God together can do anything!
