The Huntsville City Board of Education has approved over $13 million for class- room additions at Hampton Cove Middle School and Goldsmith-Schiffman Elementary School, and renovations at Lee High School. An additional $5 million is allocated for a Junior ROTC training building at Columbia High School.
HAMPTON COVE MIDDLE SCHOOL:
Contractor: Lee Builders
Cost: Over $8 million (original budget $7.2 million)
Addition: 16,000-square foot, two-story, 10-classroom Upgrades: Full pipe system, cooling system, new bus loop, and interior renovations
Completion: Expected by the 2025-26 school year
GOLDSMITH-SCHIFFMAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL:
Contractor: Pearce Cotruction
Cost: $3.8 million (budget $4 million)
Addition: 10,600-square foot, two-story, 8-classroom
Features: New restrooms, storm shelter, additional parking
Completion: Expected by the 2025-26 school year
LEE HIGH SCHOOL:
Contractor: Dunlap Contracting
Cost: $1.4 million (budget $2 million)
Renovations: Media center, theater lobby, new sports lighting, football and track storage, softball concession stand
Involvement: Students contributing to theater murals and school artwork
COLUMBIA HIGH
SCHOOL ROTC BUILDING: Architectural Contra Building: 18,000-square foot with drill space, offices, lockers, storage, obstacle course, and additional parking lot
Location: Northeast entrance of the school, current cornfield-cotton field
The board’s approval aims to enhance educational facilities and accommodate growing student populations.
