“We are always eager to add more greenspace in the City and provide more recreational opportunities for residents,” Mayor Tommy Battle said. “It also creates a natural gathering space for events at the The Orion.”
The park includes a collection of amenities for residents, such as the new lower pond for kayaks and canoes to navigate while a pedestrian bridge spans a new water feature. The park also has large amounts of open space with landscaping, irrigation and walking paths.
As in other locations, the City has partnered with ArtsHuntsville and the National Fitness Campaign to install a fitness court that will spotlight commissioned artwork from Jean-Michel Basquiat.
“Apollo Park has something for everyone to enjoy,” Parks & Recreation Director James Gossett said. “We anticipate that kayaking will be a popular feature. That’s a fun family activity not available in our other parks.”
Apollo Park will be open from one hour before sunrise until one hour after sunset. There will be no lifeguard on duty, and individuals using kayaks or canoes are expected to exercise caution.
