Remember back to the winter of 2023 and you thought it would never end? Remember how you said you were sick of the cold, and you’d couldn’t wait until summer? Congrats. Your prayers have been answered.

When you are chilled to the bone it’s easy to dream about the beach or sitting on your back deck in the evening grilling and listening to the crickets. It’s just as easy to forget the bad things that come along with summer. Stifling heat. Mosquitos. Chiggers. Ticks. Poison ivy.

For many Alabamians, poisonous plants like poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac are their Kryptonite. You can include me in that group. I have had some of the worst cases of poison ivy known to man. In my younger years, I was a poison ivy magnet. Fortunately, I haven’t had an outbreak in 20 years. Did I outgrow my severe allergy to it? No, I learned all about it and how to avoid it.
