AAMU Alum Featured in NRC’s Fall 2023 Newsletter
AAMU alum Kayleh Hartage is featured in the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) Fall 2023 newsletter “re:actions.” The Boligee, Alabama, native earned her electrical engineering at AAMU in 2020. As a student, Hartage interned with Southern Company, BASF, and received an NRC grant, her first exposure to the agency.
“I’m honored to have my journey highlighted with the U.S NRC. It is a testament to how challenges can fuel passion and determination. I’m grateful for every opportunity and mentorship along the way,” says Hartage.
Hartage started her career with the NRC in 2020 with the Nuclear Regulatory Apprenticeship Network (NRAN).
NRAN is an 18th month program designed to develop well-rounded regulators by focusing on skill development in multiple areas across the agency. After graduating from NRAN in 2022, Hartage was stationed at the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, Division of Engineering and External Hazards (NRR/DEX) as an electrical engineer-technical reviewer, ensuring that license changes and modifications are in keeping with public safety.
While on The Hill, Hartage served as treasurer and membership chair of the Gamma Mu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated, and secretary of the National Society of Black Engineers.
“My time at AAMU was transformative,” she said. “Those years were foundational, and filled with lessons, and experiences that shaped me.”
