Former UAB basketball coach Jerod Haase has been fired after eight seasons at Stanford, the school announced late Thursday.
The 49-year-old Haase 126-127 during his time with the Cardinal, including back-to-back losing records the last two seasons. His teams reached the postseason only once, an NIT berth in 2018.
“While the on-court results fell short of our expectations, Coach Haase led our men’s basketball program with great integrity and made a deeply positive impact on many Cardinal student-athletes,” Stanford athletics director Bernard Muir said. “As we embark on the search for our next head coach, I wish Jerod and his family all the best in the future.”
Haase took over at Stanford after a four-year run at UAB, with the Blazers winning the Conference USA tournament and reaching the second round of the NCAA tournament (beating Iowa State in the first round) in 2015 and winning 26 games and the CUSA regular-season title in 2016. He was selected as CUSA Coach of the Year in 2016.
A California native who played for Roy Williams at Kansas, Haase was an assistant at Kansas and North Carolina before taking over at UAB following the departure of Mike Davis in 2012. His first Blazers team finished 16-17, but improved to 18-13 and then won 20 and 26 games in his final two seasons before he was hired away by Stanford.
