Former Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh, who was convicted in a fraudulent scandal involving her “Healthy Holly” children’s book series, was released from an Alabama prison a year early on Jan. 25. According to a statement by the Bureau of Prisons, Pugh was relocated to a Baltimore halfway house. However, specific locations and reasons were not announced and Pugh’s release from custody would be Jan. 2023.
In Feb. 2017, the investigation on Pugh began when she used her children’s books entitled, Healthy Holly to raise funds for her campaign and purchase a new home.
On June 19, 2019, Pugh was sentenced to prison for six months, before she was charged for failure to reveal money collected from her Healthy Holly book on her State Financial Disclosure Form. In November of that same year, she was ultimately sentenced to three years for wire fraud, tax evasion and conspiracy to defraud the United States.
