The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Update includes information regarding California’s transition to the new federal education law.

Every Student Succeeds Act – Update #7

The California Department of Education (CDE) Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Team sent a letter from Superintendent Tom Torlakson last week to local educational agencies with the latest information regarding California’s transition to the ESSA. You can find the February 9, 2017: ESSA – Update #7 letter and other resources on the CDE ESSA Web page.

ESSA State Plan Stakeholder Policy Input Meetings

Last week the CDE, in partnership with select county offices of education, convened four in person and two webinar stakeholder meetings to inform the development of California’s ESSA State Plan. The purpose of these meetings was to present the policy decisions California needs to make in order to develop its ESSA State Plan, and gather feedback from a wide variety of stakeholders on the options the State could pursue in order to address those policy decisions.

The CDE would like to thank all participants in last week’s ESSA State Plan Stakeholder Policy Input Meetings. We very much appreciate your time and thoughtful input. We would also like to thank the county offices of education for hosting these events.

Below are a few updates regarding last week’s meetings.

Meeting Evaluation Survey

If you participated in one of the policy input meetings last week, please take a brief moment to respond to the meeting evaluation. Your response to this evaluation will help us to continuously improve ESSA stakeholder outreach.

Webinar Recording

A recording of one of the webinars is now available. Due to the size of the recording, we are making it available upon request, rather than posting it to the CDE Web site. If you would like to have access to the webinar recording, please e-mail your request to ESSA@cde.ca.gov.

Final Opportunity to Provide Input

If you were unable to participate in a stakeholder meeting last week, there is still time for you to provide comments regarding the policy decisions that need to be addressed in California’s ESSA State Plan.

In addition to making the webinar recording available, the slide presentations from these meetings are attached to this listserv message. The ESSA Policy Option Factsheets, available on the Policy Input Meeting Materials Web page, provide background information about the policy decisions that were discussed during these meetings.

Stakeholders still wishing to participate in this round of input are encouraged to view the webinar recording or review the slide presentations and review the ESSA Policy Option Factsheets before providing comments in the ESSA Stakeholder Policy Input Meeting Survey. This survey will remain open until February 23.
