AAMU Small Farms Research Center Assistant Director Presents at IAFP
The International Association of Food Protection (IAFP) Conference Annual Meeting brings together nearly 3800 participants annually from six continents in various areas including but not limited to top industry, academic and governmental food safety professionals. E’licia L Chaverest, Assistant Director of the Alabama A&M University Small Farm Research Center, was invited to participate as a distinguished guest speaker at this year’s conference in Toronto Canada.
Chaverest appeared along with several other extension specialists and experts on food safety issues. IAFP provides attendees with certification programs, pertinent information on current and emerging food safety issues, the latest science, innovative solutions to new and recurring problems, and the opportunity to network with thousands of food safety professionals from around the globe.
The panel discussion was spearheaded by the Cornell University concurrent session titled “Food Safety Extension Efforts for Small-Scale Urban Agriculture.” Chaverest presented along with two of her colleagues and collaborating project partners which included Dr. Camila Rodrigues, Assistant Professor and Food Safety Extension Specialist and Mr. Billy Mitchell, OTI Project Manager-Florida Organic Growers.
Chaverest showcased the great partnership AAMU Small Farms Research Center has with Alabama Cooperative Extension System and highlighted how historically under-served communities are being impacted by the need for minority training among other issues.
