{"id":2548,"date":"2022-06-16T07:47:08","date_gmt":"2022-06-16T11:47:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnpa.org\/education\/?p=2548"},"modified":"2023-05-29T15:08:55","modified_gmt":"2023-05-29T19:08:55","slug":"5000-role-models-of-excellence-awarded-over-1m-in-scholarships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnpa.org\/education\/2022\/06\/16\/5000-role-models-of-excellence-awarded-over-1m-in-scholarships\/","title":{"rendered":"5000 Role Models of Excellence Awarded Over $1M in Scholarships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dressed in their signature white dress shirt and red ties, thirteen recent graduates and members of the 5000 Role Models of Excellence stood front and center during the recent school board meeting to be recognized as Wilson Scholars.<\/p>\n<p>As Wilson scholars, these graduates are receiving scholarships ranging from $20,000 to $96,000 to one of three Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs): Clark Atlanta University, Benedict College, or Tennessee State University.<\/p>\n<p>The namesake of the scholar program is Rep. Frederica Wilson who founded the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project and established the scholarship program by collaborating with HBCUs across the country. The Wilson Scholars program offers qualifying seniors an opportunity to fulfill their dream of higher education by providing scholarship awards.<\/p>\n<p>Scholarship recipients were eligible based on their ability to maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher and by being an active participant of the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dcps.duvalschools.org\/Page\/8163\">5000 Role Models of Excellence Project<\/a>\u00a0is designed to equip minority male youth for success by providing them exposure to positive role models and diverse cultural and educational experiences such as college tours, etiquette workshops, and career-training resources.<\/p>\n<p>Scholarship recipients from Duval County Public Schools are:\u00a0Shaun Raymond (Andrew Jackson High School), Tyree Soares (Atlantic Coast High School), Freddie Coleman and Anthony Harrell (First Coast High School), Mykal Bolden, Joshua Delphone, Devonte Greene, Donovin Green, Amari Gunder and Terrell Shealy (Jean Ribault High School), \u00a0Alfred Graham and Elijah Green (Riverside High School), Joshua Golden and Kristopher Mason, (Samuel W.
