Amazon is offering its vaccinated front-line employees an opportunity to win big this fall. During the Sweepstakes Period through Oct. 21, Amazon will award a total of 18 prizes worth nearly $2 million: two $500,000 cash awards, six $100,000 awards, five new vehicles and five vacation packages. To participate, employees provide proof that they’re fully vaccinated via an internal website and are automatically entered in the weekly drawings.
Idanny José Cuevas immigrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic two years ago. He has been working as a power industrial truck driver at Amazon’s Sparrows Point, Maryland fulfillment center for just two months. “I chose to get vaccinated,” he said, “because I wanted to be part of ending the pandemic. It is not just for me, but for all of those around me.” Idanny plans to use his winnings to buy a new home for his family and help move his wife and children to the United States. “I plan to stay at Amazon and continue to give it my all,” Idanny says, “there are so many growth opportunities within the company and I’m excited for what the future holds.”
“We strongly believe that the best way to protect our front-line employees and communities from Covid-19 is through vaccination and we are proud to have hosted more than 1,500 on-site vaccination events to help make getting a vaccination as easy as possible for our employees and their household members,” said Emily Hawkins, an Amazon spokesperson.
Earlier this month, Amazon announced it is hiring more than 5,000 in the Baltimore metro area. To learn more about employment opportunities, visit amazon.com/apply.
Amazon cares about the communities where we operate and we are proud to have created more than 29,000 jobs in Maryland since 2010. These jobs support communities of all sizes, from large cities like Baltimore to small towns like Lanham. Over the last decade, Amazon has invested more than $9.5 billion across the state, including infrastructure and compensation. These investments have contributed an additional $8.5 billion to the Maryland economy and have helped create 31,000 indirect jobs on top of Amazon’s direct hires – from jobs in construction and logistics to professional services. In addition, more than 31,000 independent authors and small and medium businesses in Maryland are selling to customers in Amazon’s store, creating thousands of additional jobs across the state.
