Huntsville, Ala. – Dr. Patricia Sims, President of Drake State Community and Technical College, has been appointed by the Huntsville City Council to serve on the Health Care Authority Board of the City of Huntsville, which governs the Huntsville Hospital Health System.

Dr. Sims’ appointment reflects her deep and ongoing commitment to community service and civic engagement. As a respected leader in education and workforce development, she brings decades of experience in strategic planning, public service, and community collaboration to this vital role.

The Health Care Authority is comprised of an eleven-member volunteer board responsible for guiding one of the largest hospital systems in Alabama. The board plays a critical role in ensuring that the hospital system meets the evolving healthcare needs of North Alabama. Alabama law permits the Authority to submit a list of nominees following a rigorous interview and vetting process designed to ensure that board members reflect and serve the best interests of the community.

“I am honored to join the Health Care Authority Board and support the mission of Huntsville Hospital Health System,” said Dr. Sims. “I look forward to contributing to its continued impact, helping to advance access to high-quality care and strengthen the health and well-being of our region.”

Dr. Sims will join a distinguished group of community leaders on the Authority as they guide policy, strategy, and investment across the hospital system’s extensive network.
