Deion Sanders proclaims himself best coach, mentions Nick Saban but not the way you think

Deion Sanders’ self-confidence is not exclusive to his playing days.

It is in every aspect of his life. So when the Colorado Buffaloes was asked a question, he answered it as if he had picked off a quarterback and high stepped into the end zone.

Coach Prime sat down for an interview with “60 Minutes” and didn’t disappoint.

Jon Wertheim asked him, “Now that you’re a Power Five guy, who’s the best coach in college football today?”

The answer was all Prime.

“Let me see … let me see a mirror, so I can look at it,” Sanders said with a laugh.

“You feel that,” Wertheim asked.

“What, you think I’m gonna sit up here and tell you somebody else?” Sanders replied. “You, you think, you think that’s the way I operate? That somebody else got that on me?”

Still, despite the almost cocky response, Sanders does get introspective on the topic.

“But I tell you this, I love, and I adore, and I respect, and every time I do a commercial with (Alabama) coach (Nick) Saban, it’s a gift,” he explained. “Just sitting in his presence and hearing him and throwing something else out there, so I can hear his viewpoint on it. Because he’s forgotten more things than I may ever accomplish. So I’m a student looking up to this wonderful teacher saying, “Just throw me a crumb of what you know.”

Sanders has put No. 19 Colorado (3-0) on the fast track to success. After a single win last season, Colorado has earned wins over previously ranked TCU, Nebraska and just came off an overtime win over Colorado State.

Sanders, who hastened the Buffaloes’ rise by scouring the transfer portal like no one before him, figures the scare the Rams put into his team should benefit the Buffaloes when they visit 10th-ranked Oregon (3-0) next weekend before facing Caleb Williams and fifth-ranked USC (3-0) in Boulder in two weeks.
