Huntsville AL – A crowd of community well-wishers gathered Tuesday morning in Huntsville’s Cedar Point community to break ground on the latest Madison County Commission construction project. Spearheaded by the District 6 county representative, Commissioner Violet Edwards, this two-phase project aims to beautify and give residents a safe place to wheel, walk, and jog.

“We want to encourage people to get outdoors and get moving,” said

Commissioner Edwards. “These sidewalks will connect the community so people will have a safe space to get around and enjoy nature.”

This project will enhance the entryway and campus of the Robert “Bob” Harrison Senior Wellness and Advocacy Center, as well as promote safety with new sidewalks, improved lighting, and the installation of curb ramps and handrails. Handicap-accessible multi-use paths will connect the campus to the neighborhood, allowing pedestrians and bike riders safe passage. Other significant improvements include:

•Installation of a retaining wall on Pulaski Pike

•Installation of a pedestrian bridge

•Curb ramps

“We have worked diligently for three years preparing for this day. I am excited to see it come to fruition, knowing what it will bring to the senior and this community,” said Edwards. Grants from the Alabama Department of Transportation and the MetropolitanPlanning Organization will fund the project. The project should be complete by August
