Victoria Jones is a senior journalism major and photography minor at Howard University. She has an extensive reporting history that includes writing for NBC Washington, The Afro-American Newspapers, the Washington Informer, and many more. Victoria plans to own a media corporation in the future. She was born in Brunswick, Ga., and later moved to Columbia, Md., where she now resides. Victoria’s hobbies include reading, writing, fashion, and beauty.

The issue of whether the District of Columbia will become the United States’ 51st state has been brewing for a long time, and the lack of voting power within Congress has many residents, city officials and presidential candidates saying the time is right for officially lobbying to make the District a state.

Thanks to Chevrolet, the Discover The Unexpected (DTU) NNPA Journalism Fellows Program is giving undergraduate student scholars from the Howard University School of Communications the opportunity to “Break News” in Detroit, Chicago, Washington, DC, and in Atlanta. Tatyana Hopkins, Sidnee King, Briahnna Brown, McKenzie Marshall, Brandi Montgomery, Brelaun Douglas, Victoria Jones, and Rushawn Walters are all now working with NNPA member newspapers in the aforementioned markets.
