Jordan Fisher – June 21, 2019
My name is Jordan Fisher. I graduated from Clark Atlanta University with a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Media Arts in the spring of May, 2018. Post-graduation, I started working for the media team on the Stacey Abrams for Governor Campaign. While working on the campaign, I learned a lot and was fortunate to meet lots of inspiring people; but the highlight of that job was meeting billionaire business mogul Oprah Winfrey.
Currently, I am a media manager and advisor for CNN political commentator and attorney Angela Rye’s political advocacy firm, IMPACT Strategies. This fall, I will officially relaunch my college radio show “Officially Live” as a podcast on all social platforms. It will have a new look, and a new format, but the same amount of fun!
My experience during the Discover the Unexpected fellowship was everything I hoped it would be, and so much more. There are no words to express the amount of gratitude I have for each individual that I came in contact with during the program. I cannot thank them enough for all that they taught me. They inspired me, motivated me, and gave me unwavering support. During the fellowship, I gained a new perspective on life that superseded the articles I wrote, the beautiful sunburst colored Chevrolet Equinox I got to drive, or even the amazing scholarship I received. None of that meant anything without the people we worked with in the newsroom, the experiences behind the scenes on set, and most of all the people we reported on.
It was my responsibility to connect with our subjects, and tell their stories so that they became visible. I got to be their voice, and with the right support, was able to do them proud!
