The Greater Huntsville Interdenominational Ministerial Fellowship (GHIMF) hosted its annual commemoration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday and the Emancipation Proclamation. Initially planned for Monday, January 15, 2024, Rev. King’s birthday, the event was rescheduled due to inclement weather. It occurred on Monday, January 29, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., with Church Street CPCA and Rev. Dr. Mitchell Walker serving as hosts.

Dr. Robert Smith, a Professor at the Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, Alabama, delivered the keynote address. His sermon, “A Kitchen, A Tree and A Hill,” drew from the scriptural references of 1 Kings 19:1- 4. Choir members representing various churches across Huntsville provided musical performances.

During the celebration, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Award was presented to Mr. L. C. Smith, the founder of R. Fathers M.A.D. (Real Fathers Making A Difference). This organization is dedicated to offering character education, business and life skills, and opportunities to boys aged 13-18. Bro. Carnell Davidson delivered the Youth Challenge, emphasizing the importance of youth engagement and empowerment.

Rev. Dr. Larry Davidson, Jr., serves as the President of the GHIMF, leading efforts to foster unity and community engagement among interdenominational ministers in Huntsville.
