The Alabama A&M University Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) invites first-generation students to the next F1rst Gen Friday, a monthly series designed to foster community, engagement, and academic success. This month’s session, presented by Career Development Services, will focus on “Landing an Internship” – a crucial step toward career success. The event takes place on February 21 at 3:00 p.m. in the Knight Center Ballroom.
“Landing internships and jobs is essential but often daunting for first-generation students,” says OMA Executive Director Dr. Pamela Little. “To succeed in today’s job market, students must establish connections with professionals. However, first-generation students sometimes lack the social capital to build a network independently. While securing high-quality jobs and internships is crucial for social mobility among first-gen students, achieving these goals requires a strategic approach.”
Attendees will have the chance to connect with first-generation faculty and staff, network with peers, and explore valuable campus resources that support career readiness. Refreshments will be provided.
