Brayden Ray, 15, died shortly after 12:30 a.m. in a single-vehicle wreck. Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans said the wreck happened on Highway 70 near the Waterford subdivision.
Authorities said it appears Brayden’s vehicle left the roadway and struck some trees. He was alone in the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene.
The Shelby County Traffic Homicide Task Force is investigating the cause of the crash.
Brayden was a wide receiver for Calera’s Eagles where he wore jersey No. 29.
Family said he was mannerable and would greet anyone he loved with a big hug and shy smile.
