UCLA senior Delanie Wisz stepped up big time in the Super Regionals. She had two- hits and three RBI’s that helped lead her team to a 8-2 win over 12th seeded DUKE sweeping the weekend series.
With the score tied in the fifth inning Wisz a catcher/third baseman ripped a double to off the center-field fence knocking in the go ahead run for the second consecutive game. In the sixth with runners on first and third she caught Rachael Crabtree (Huntington Beach (Edison) stealing to end the inning. In the seventh she blasted another double for two more runs as part of a five-run frame that put the game out of reach.
“She epitomizes being clutch under pressure,” said coach Kelly Inouye-Perez after the game. “The girl is on fire.”
The Bruins (48-8) will head to it’s seventh straight Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City and will begin play this week against Texas. It will be televised in ESPN2.
Holly Azavedo (20-4) got the win after going the first four innings, she struck out four Megan Faraimo (22-4) came in and got her seventh save of the season- pitching shutout ball the final three innings while fanning seven. This after the PAC-12 Pitcher of The Year threw 106 pitches, whiffing 10 the previous day.
Savi Pola got a sac-fly in the second to get the scoring started and Maya Brady went “Uptown” with her first homer of the post season.
ADD BRUINS: It was the Blue Devils 44-11 first appearance in the Supe Regionals. The program is in its fifth year. Rumor has it coach Kelly Nouye-Perez has a home in OKC and why not. She been a participant in 25 WCWS she been three times as a Championship player. Three times as a Championship assistant coach and as a Coach she’s won titles in 2010 and 2019. She apparently owns something there.
