The Chief of Staff of Alabama State University, Dr. Kevin A. Rolle, has been appointed to the Class of 2026 Board of Trustees of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges(SACSCOC), the body responsible for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions. The purpose of SACSCOC is to assure the educational quality and improve the effectiveness of its member institutions in 11 Southern states, including Alabama, as well as Latin America and certain other international sites that award baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degrees.

Rolle, a former United State Marine, has more than 30 years of progressive leadership experience in higher education. As ASU’s chief of staff, he serves as an ambassador for President Quinton T. Ross, Jr., for whom he provides specialized services and support, and sets the tone for communicating to internal and external stakeholders, provides leadership, direction and executive oversight in accordance with all accreditation, regulatory, and governmental standards, and works closely with the Board of Trustees.

Rolle shared that his tenure on the Commission is for a three-year term, which begins now and concludes on December 31, 2026. One of his first meetings as a Trustee on its board took place on Feb. 14, when it met on the ASU campus in the John Garrick Hardy Student Center’s Ballroom.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be so integrally involved on the board of this important Commission, which positively shapes and molds education in our institutions of higher education and helps lift-up their students,” Rolle said.

 ABOUT SACSCOC

Headquartered in Decatur, Ga., SACSCOC serves as the recognized institutional accrediting body for those higher education entities within its area of oversight that award degrees. SACSCOC’s main purpose is the improvement of educational quality and assurance to the public that its institutions meet established membership-approved standards. As a trustee, ASU’s Rolle will represent approximately 800 institutions and be part of the board that is responsible for determining Commission policy, reviewing and making decisions regarding the accreditation of institutions, and conducting the initial review for any proposed changes or any modifications to the standards of the Commission. “I have been involved in working with SACSCOC for more than 30 years, and I am excited to take a more proactive role by now serving on its board, which allows me to work with my fellow members in helping maintain and better the institutions of higher education that we serve and in turn ensure that all students get the very best educations possible,” Rolle added.
