Anasuri Represents AAMU at International Scientex Conference

Associate professor for Human Development and Family Studies Dr. Sadguna Anasuri was invited to speak at the third International Scientex Conference on Psychology and Mental Health November 16 –17 in Dubai.

Anasuri presented her research, ‘An Overlooked (Silent) Pandemic: Psychological Impact of COVID-19 on Children and Youth.’

“The presentation was well-received and aroused further interest in conducting comparative studies across different countries,” said Anasuri. “Efforts are being made to finalize the methodology and collect data in 2024. This would be an incredible opportunity to showcase the scholarship from AAMU on a global platform.”

Anasuri’s research collected data from children, youth, and adults to examine the pandemic’s impact on families already facing multiple challenges, including abuse, neglect and poverty. Her findings highlight underlying mental health concerns resulting from COVID-19: social isolation, and impacts on family life and education.

The analysis indicates the types of assistance families require moving forward and provides recommendations to policymakers. Anasuri says she was fortunate to be invited to share her research.

“This event helped make new connections among faculty from different continents and thus collaborate in future research. Discussing current and critical research conducted across the world was enlightening and inspiring. The trip, on the whole, was academically gratifying and scholarly enriching.”
