Chicago Alumni Celebrate AAMU, HBCUs at Wrigley Field Event
Members of AAMU’s Chicago Alumni Chapter recently converged on Wrigley Field for Chicago Cubs’ HBCU Celebration game. The Aug. 29 ballpark event featured special entertainment, live music, and on-field HBCU recognitions, a pre-game discussion on diversity in professional sports featuring panelists from across the city and special-edition Cubs HBCU jerseys.
“We hope this is the beginning of a new tradition,” said Chicago Alumni President Connie Wheaton. “We made sure the Bulldog spirit was felt throughout Wrigley, and after all the singing and chanting, we ended the night with a win!”
AAMU alumna Juanita Nave performed the national anthem in a special arrangement by the Chicago HBCU Alumni Choir directed by Morehouse alumnus Martin Woods. Cubs Senior Vice President of Communications and Community Affairs Julian Green welcomed the AAMU chapter contengient with complimentary tickets to the iconic sports venue.
