A day care worker has been charged with murder in the death of an infant found unresponsive earlier this week at an Alabama day care.
Versa Mae Simmons, 68, of Demopolis, was arrested on murder charges after the police investigation at the Tender Years day care on Maria Avenue in Demopolis, where the infant was found unresponsive on Monday, Police Chief Rex Flowers told WSFA.
The baby’s body was sent for an autopsy; authorities have not cited a cause of death or other information related to the case, citing the ongoing investigation.
The state’s court records system did not contain Simmons’ case as of Friday afternoon.
WSFA reported the day care employee is being held in the Marengo County jail pending a bail hearing.
