In a candidate and relevant speech, Major shared examples of the ups and downs she experienced as a student and a Black woman entering a male-dominated field.
“Success is not a destination, it’s a journey that’s paved with you passion and driven by your dedication and discipline,” said Major. “Seek what sets your heart on fire and makes time go by so quick that you don’t even know.”
Major says her Alabama A&M journey instilled resilience often called upon in her career journey. She highlighted several AAMU mentors who played a part in preparing her for groundbreaking success in her industry.
“Stuff happens,” she said. “Adversity is not an enemy to shy away from. It is an invaluable teacher that shapes our character and resilience. Every challenge you face over the next four years is going to be an opportunity for growth and learning”.
