NEW ORLEANS, La. | The Alabama A&M University men’s tennis team was locked in a battle on Saturday in the 2024 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men’s Tennis Tournament semifinals as Jackson State edged the Bulldogs, 4-3, at the City Center Tennis Center.
Jackson State, the No. 3 seed, advances to Sunday’s SWAC Men’s Tournament Championship and will meet top seed Alabama State at 1 p.m. Alabama A&M concludes the season with a 7-15 overall record.
In doubles play, Jackson State won at No. 1 and Alabama A&M answered at No. 3 as the team of Kai Cowcher and Arnav Pathange defeated Federick Pickenstain and Carlos Castillo, 6-3. The Tigers won the doubles play with a 6-4 victory at No. 2.
AAMU tied the match at 1 as Chetanna Amadike defeated Alejandro Pinilla, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2, but again JSU answered with a win at No. 3.
Cowcher picked up a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 5, tying the match at 2, but Jackson State got a win at No. 1, before Pathange beat Gokalp Ayar, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4, tying the match at 4.
However, Jackson State sealed the match at No. 6 when Castillo defeated Freddie Lawrence in a three-set thriller, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
