Absentee voting for the Aug. 27 Huntsville city election is now underway.

On the ballot are two city council races and two Huntsville Board of Education races in District 1 (north Huntsville) and District 5 (west Huntsville).

The mayor’s race would have been on the ballot, but Mayor Tommy Battle was declared the winner by the city council when no one else qualified for the race. The council vote saves the city the cost of a city-wide election.
