Daniel Among 15 Students Selected Nationwide for Coveted Award

Da’Quandalon Daniel has received a $10,000 Splunk 2024 HBCU Scholarship. The rising senior computer science major with a concentration in cybersecurity from Gadsden, Alabama, was among 15 students chosen for the award from more than 300 applicants nationwide.

For the last four years, Splunk, a software company based in San Francisco, has honored 15 outstanding HBCU students who showcase one or more of the following: academic excellence and aspirations, the ability to be innovative through the use of technology, and/or a unique leadership role.

“I am very thankful to be recognized as a 2024 Splunk Scholar,” says Daniel. “This scholarship will financially help me complete my senior year at AAMU, ensuring that I obtain my degree in computer science and continue contributing to society through my technical expertise. Thank you Splunk!”

Eligible students must be full-time rising sophomores, juniors or seniors majoring in computer science, computer engineering, software development, data science, information systems, information technology, networking engineering, web development, UX/UI design, cybersecurity, or other technology-related degrees, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Applicants are evaluated on a resume that contains work experience, notable projects, honors/awards, and/or extracurricular activities, a 500-word essay describing a significant contribution or impact they made to their school or local community, and a 250-word essay describing why deserve the scholarship or their academic and career goals.

Daniel, who plans to pursue a career in software engineering or product management, is interning as a software engineer at Wells Fargo in Charlotte, North Carolina this summer. Last summer he interned at RTX, a defense government contractor in Huntsville, Alabama.

Daniel has also served as President of the AAMU chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery, and is an active member of the AAMU Honors Program and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. His scholarship will provide $5,000 per semester his senior year.

“This achievement is a testament to Da’Quandalon’s pursuit of excellence and dedication to his goals,” says AAMU Director of Experiential Learning and Computer Science Professor Terry Miller. “Let it be a reminder that with passion, persistence, and a belief in yourself, there’s no limit to what you can achieve. Well done Quan!”
