This week, students concluded the 6-week National Defense Education Program (NDEP) hosted at Alabama A&M University. NDEP provides professional development and STEM career preparation to participating students through a series of lectures and training focused on developing a talent pipeline for Department of Defense (DoD) career opportunities.

The goal of the Department of Defense effort is to bolster the STEM workforce for the nect generation with a priority of critical needs for the Department and National security. Program participants took part in paid internships in fields like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, biotechnology, cryptography, microelectronics, and more.

The DoD NDEP program awarded a total of $31 million over a three-year period to fund STEM education outreach, and workforce initiatives for students and educators from early childhood through postsecondary.
