Pedestrian takeover kicks cars to the curb for a day of outdoor shopping, dining & strolling, from 9am – 3pm, between Saratoga Street and Mt. Royal Avenue
BALTIMORE – Downtown Partnership of Baltimore announces the return of the Charles Street Promenade, a one-day closure of Charles Street that facilitates shopping, dining, and strolling without cars. The event will be held on September 25 from 9am – 3pm, between Saratoga Street and Mt. Royal Avenue.
The first two Promenades, last October and again in May, were so successful with the public that, in surveys, the majority of respondents wanted to see the event happen every month.
The Promenade does two important things. First, it benefits the many small and independent shops and restaurants that line Charles Street, still recovering from last year’s COVID shutdowns. Second, it helps Baltimoreans change the way we think about public space by creating a better balance between people and automobiles, even if just for one day.
Pedestrians will be able to shop at dozens of local boutiques and galleries, and dine in one of several outdoor parklets. All current Baltimore City COVID guidelines about masking and group size will be in place.
The list of participating restaurants and retailers is growing daily. The full list of businesses and other details about the Charles Street Promenade may be found at: www.CharlesStreetPromenade.com
Several organizations teamed up with Downtown Partnership to make the Charles Street Promenade happen, including the City of Baltimore, Central Baltimore Partnership, Charles Street Development, Guppy Management, Midtown Community Benefits District, Mt. Vernon Belvedere Association, and the Mt. Vernon Place Conservancy.
