Fundraiser Showcases Talent of Artists with Intellectual, Developmental Disabilities

BALTIMORE, MD (9/23/21) — Celebrating its 20th anniversary, The Arc Baltimore’s Art in the Round presented by Scientific Plant Service will once again be a virtual event this year.

The annual art exhibit and fund-raising auction, which showcases the talent and artistry of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, will be held virtually on Friday, October 22, beginning at 7 p.m.

Art in the Round will be preceded by a number of virtual events throughout the month of October, capped by a Virtual Curator Night from 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13. Virtual Curator Night will feature a discussion led by a panel of five prominent leaders from Baltimore’s art community.

Other online highlights include a Virtual Art Gallery Opening featuring this year’s art selections, a Fund the Mission Video and companion fundraising site launch replacing the mission appeal which normally takes place live during Art in the Round, and a Meet the Artists Video Series.

Bidding for this Year’s Art in the Round artwork – which will include about 50 pieces of art – will begin on Friday, October 15. All Art in the Round artwork is chosen by a selection committee of art enthusiasts from more than 140 pieces submitted. Look for the mobile bidding app registration information on The Arc Baltimore’s website so you can bid on your mobile device.

“While we had hoped to return to an in-person format this year, we decided that it made more sense for Art in the Round to again go virtual in order to assure the continued health and safety of our artists and attendees,” says The Arc Baltimore’s Chief Executive Officer, Kathleen McNally Durkin.

She continues, “Given the success of last year’s virtual event, we are very confident that Art in the Round will again be a tremendous success and remain one of The Arc Baltimore’s top annual fundraisers. We urge those who have supported us in the past to stick with us and continue their patronage of the talented artists whose artwork will be displayed during our 20th anniversary celebration.”

Proceeds from this year’s Art in the Round go to the organization’s COVID Relief Fund to help sustain programs and supports for people with developmental disabilities.

Virtual ticket donations for Art in the Round are $35 per person. A Wine & Dine package option is also available in a souvenir tote bag with wine glasses for $95. Virtual attendees can enjoy all aspects of the event and will receive a 2021 art calendar. In addition, 60% of winning bids on each piece of artwork go to the artist.
