Applications to Become a Community Grant Reviewer with the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement Open Today

BALTIMORE, MD (Monday, November 8, 2021) – The Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (MONSE) is seeking help from the community to evaluate grant applications. Starting October 1, 2021 MONSE launched a grants portal to increase the capacity of community-based organizations co-producing public safety in each of Baltimore’s neighborhoods.

“We are excited about this next step in the grant application review process,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. “I want to encourage anyone committed to building a better, safer Baltimore to apply to be a MONSE Community Grant Reviewer. This is about centering our communities in the conversation about how to enhance public safety in a meaningful and sustainable way.”

Applications for community members to become a MONSE Community Grant Reviewer open today. The grant reviewer application consists of four questions with additional demographic information recorded to ensure equity of voice in the review process.

This opportunity will allow all of the Baltimore community to have a pivotal say in how grants like those used for community violence intervention work will be implemented in our city.

“Transforming our city will require the entire weight of Baltimore – ALL of us – to be intentional about working together as we co-produce public safety. This involves partnering with folks with lived experiences as we make decisions about how to fund the work,” said Shantay Jackson, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement.

City residents interested in becoming a grant reviewer should complete the four-question application available at monse.baltimorecity.gov.

Any community members who are interested in and/or subject matter experts in MONSE’s five funding priorities are encouraged to apply:

Community Violence Intervention,
Youth Justice,
Community Healing,
Victim Services,
and Re-entry.
