It is with a heavy heart that NCNW (National Council of Negro Women) announces the passing of Joan Douglas-Jordan on Aug. 25, 2023. Mrs. Douglas-Jordan faithfully served on the NCNW Board of Directors and chaired the Greater Washington Life Member’s Guild. She was also a mentor and advisor for the Bethune Height Recognition Program (BHRP) for many years. She leaves behind a legacy of outstanding service and commitment to NCNW’s various causes and missions.
“Joan was an NCNW pillar. For decades she supported NCNW both locally and on the national level. She will be sorely missed. Sending my deepest sympathy to the family,” remarked NCNW National Chair Dr. A. Lois Keith.
“Mrs. Joan Douglas was a kind, generous, and loving person, and will be greatly missed,” said NCNW General Counsel Janice Mathis.
“One of NCNW’s legends who was always present supporting NCNW’s mission, milestones, and the vision of our founder and leadership through the years. My heart is heavy, but I know she is soaring in Heaven. My condolences to Mrs. Joan Douglas-Jordan’s family and friends,” remarked NCNW Board Member Dawna Michelle Fields.
“She will be missed for sure,” said NCNW Board Member Helena Johnson.
“Joan was a true and dedicated NCNW member,” remarked NCNW Board Member Alotta Taylor.
Mrs. Douglas-Jordan will be laid to rest in Virginia. The family has requested no visits to the home at this time, but will greatly appreciate phone calls and cards.
