A boy found unresponsive in the indoor pool at a Birmingham hotel has died.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the boy as Jamir Ali-Shabazz-Hawkins. He was 5 and lived in Birmingham.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service was dispatched to Embassy Suites on Woodcrest Place, which is off Red Mountain Expressway, just after 7p.m. Saturday, said Battalion Chief Jackie Hicks.

When medics arrived at the hotel’s indoor pool, bystanders were performing CPR on Jamir.

The child was rushed to Children’s of Alabama in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 7:41 p.m.

Authorities said Jamir was found unresponsive at the bottom of the hotel pool. No additional details have been released.
