The U.S. Army Garrison at Redstone Arsenal is proposing to implement corrective measures at RSA-234-R-01, Former Waste Disposal Pit, located in the northeastern portion of Redstone Arsenal. Building 642 was an incendiary bomb filling plant in 1942 before a fire burned the entire building and approximately 4 tons of Thermate. The concrete building slab remained after the fire and was used for waste burning and disposal of a wide variety of smoke mixes, waste explosives, and rejected 105-millimeter smoke canisters and shells from the 1940s until the late 1960s/early 1970s.
