Authorities have released the names of two men killed in separate weekend homicides in Jefferson County.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Andre Taylor, 49, and Ingermar Liquori Kuwait Cleggett, 47. Taylor was killed in Bessemer, and Cleggett in Birmingham.
Officers were dispatched at 5:35 a.m. Saturday to a report of a shooting at 18th Street and 18th Way in Bessemer, said Det. Justin Burmeister.
They arrived to find Taylor unresponsive inside a vehicle. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:47 a.m.
Burmeister said a suspect was taken into custody, but no formal charges have been announced.
A family member made the discovery about 6:30 p.m. at the residence in the 10 block of 15th Avenue West in the city’s East Thomas neighborhood.
North Precinct officers responded, entered the house, and found the victim unresponsive inside. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:38 p.m.
Police marked several shell casings on 15th Avenue West in front of Cleggett’s house. Further investigation showed there was substantial bullet damage to the residence.
Police had responded earlier Sunday to a shooting on the same street, in which a victim sustained a non-life-threatening injury.
It was not immediately clear if Cleggett was killed in that shooting and not discovered until four hours later, or if he was killed by separate gunfire.
One resident at the scene said he heard about 25 shots while he was working on his car between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
“Officers and detectives are working to learn if the incidents are connected,’’ said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
Taylor is Bessemer’s third homicide of 2024, and Cleggett is Birmingham’s 34th so far this year.
In all of Jefferson County, there have been 43 homicides.
